METAGENOMICS APPLIED TO ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES: IMPACTS AND DYNAMICS OF AQUATIC MICROBIAL COMMUNITIES
Metagenomics studies have become an innovative approach in different areas of knowledge, from human, animal, and even environmental health, which defines the concept of single health developed by the WHO. Different sequencing techniques allow the analysis of microbial DNA directly from environmental samples, without the need for laboratory cultivation, which makes it possible to solve a puzzle about the organization, dynamics and functions linked to the diversity of microorganisms in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. During the event, participants will have the opportunity to explore what commonly used culture media cannot show in the face of the complexity of biotic and abiotic interactions that an aquatic environment has. More specifically, knowledge will be addressed about the role of microbial communities in phytoremediation and degradation of toxins in environments impacted by eutrophication, in addition to the impact of alternative water treatments on the dynamics of microbial communities. Join us for an engaging discussion on this topic that has proven crucial to environmental health.
